Easy Migration from Online Site Management Services

If you use one of the online site management services such as Watchful, myJoomla or Perfect Dashboard, then its easy to set up the sites you manage in YourSites. 

Note that as you try out YourSites you can continue to use your existing Online Site Management Service too - they should not interfere with each other.  You should not, of course, attempt to perform the same upgrades at the same time on both though!

Simply follow these steps:

Easiest Migration

If your chosen YourSites server is accessible online and can be found via DNS the you can follow the easiest migration path.

1. Install YourSites on your chosen server
2. View the list of sites in YourSites
3. Click the 'Download client' button ("Joomla -> Download client" from the toolbar menu) - this downloads a server specific version of the client plugin
1. If you are using Watchful.li then install downloaded client plugin via the extension installer in Watchful.li
2. If you are using another service you should login to each site in turn and install the client plugin using the Joomla installer
4. View the list of sites on your YourSites management server - the connection between the client sites and the management server is setup and secured automatically

Alternative Migration Path (if using Watchful.li)

If your YourSites server is not accessible online e.g. is running on your local PC or not listed in DNS you will need to do the migration slightly differently. If your YourSites server is accessible online the method described abost is a lot easier and quicker.

1. Install YourSites on your chosen server
2. View the list of sites in YourSites

3. Click the 'options' button and add your Watchful.li API key to the YourSites configuration and save the configuration.

4. Click 'Import Sites' from the left icon menu in the list of sites view - this imports the site definitions from Watchful into YourSites
5. For each of your imported sites:
   1. Select the relevant checkbox and click the 'Site Specific Client' button - this downloads a version of the client plugin that is secured for the combination of Yourssites server and client
   2. Install the downloaded 'Site Specific Client' package and install on the site - make sure you install the correct package for each site since they are unique to each client site.
6. Install the downloaded client plugin on the sites you wish to manage - you will probably be able to do this from the control panel of your existing site management service
7. View the list of sites on your YourSites management server - the connection between the client sites and the management server is setup and secured automatically

Security Notes

The client package you download via the 'Download Client' button is specific to your YourSites server so it should only be installed on sites you wish to connect to your YourSites server.

The act of installing the downloaded client package will trigger a connection to the YourSites server to establish the secure linkage. This will not work if your 'YourSites' server is not accessible from your client sites and this is why the site specific package must be installed on each site in turn in the alternative migration path.
